4 Items You Shouldn't Pack On A Moving Truck

Have a big moving day coming up and want it to go smoothly? If so, it starts with making sure that you are packing the correct items. Here are a few things that your moving company is not going to move for you or that you should simply handle moving on your own.

Food

One thing that your movers will not allow to go on their moving truck is food. This is because food can cause some big problems during a move if you are not careful. Items can get hot under the heat and burst open from their original packaging, glass can crack and cause liquid to go everywhere, and odors can be a big problem if food goes bad. Be prepared for food to not be allowed on the truck and to pack it separately for you to handle on your own.

Plants

Plants are another item that you should leave behind or move on your own. The problem with plants is that they are similar to food in the way that they can tip over and create a big mess with dirt in the moving truck. In addition, your plants may get damaged if things shift around in the moving truck, and they won't make it to their destination. Consider taking plants on your own so that you can be extra careful with them.

Fire Extinguishers

Everyone should have a fire extinguisher in their home, and you likely want to take it with you. However, a fire extinguisher has the potential to explode in the back of a moving truck if it is under extreme heat. While you are going to be fine for a short move across town, it may not be the case when you are traveling across the country. Consider leaving your fire extinguisher behind for the next renter or owner so that it stays safe.

Hazardous Materials

Your movers will not let you pack any hazardous materials on the moving truck. This includes oil, gasoline for a lawn mower, some heavy-duty cleaning chemicals, or anything else that can combust in the back of the moving truck. This is for the safety of everyone involved since you don't want a bunch of chemicals getting really hot without supervision.
